In what seems to be an ever-down-turning economy, many smart content producers and brand marketers are seeking additional income streams. You may recall, last week I blogged on new ways to monetize online video, e.g., with online video and banner advertising, sponsorships and subscriptions. Today I’m adding pay-per-view and affiliate networks/syndication to the discussion.
- Pay-per-view – Works best when selling “tickets” to live web events. PPV helps generate revenue by attracting audiences that otherwise couldn’t, or wouldn’t, attend ... and helps build online communities via interactive tools such as live chat, commenting, rating and more (Endavo Media recently helped a faith-based music conference generate $27,000 in a week by streaming concerts online during their conference).
- Affiliate networks and paid syndication – We know smaller businesses, online communities or websites will pay for access to relevant, premium content libraries or channels. In fact, we’re seeing more and more examples of “New Media” networks forming for content access and distribution from which even the smallest content owners, websites, online communities and advertisers can benefit. Why? Because the Internet provides a natural enabling and accessible medium where global communities of content, distribution, consumers and advertisers can cross-market to create leveraged commercial value.
At Endavo, we believe being a successful, long-term online video business requires developing revenue streams that are best for you ... which usually includes acquiring an effective video publishing and distribution platform that supports all monetization models. Your Internet TV Platform also must have the capability to grow as your business grows.
Here are few basic success strategies for monetizing online video:
- Create or aggregate great content that is relevant to a targeted audience or community.
- Have an identifiable audience that you know and can reach regularly.
- Get your audience engaged with your content and community.
- Choose a content publishing and distribution platform that will provide your community with such interactive features as commenting, rating, sharing, chat, user-generated uploads and more.
- Add value to your community by adding online video and social media.
- Develop multiple streams of revenue that gives you and your community choices.
- Find advertisers and sponsors that see value in reaching your audience.
- Have a business plan and plan to work hard to execute it.
- Don’t give up, be persistent and creative in your business and marketing strategy.

Point #9 - Never give up - I probably the best advise. Certainly we at Veeple like your #5 - Add a video.
So to help people get started, we have posted a resource guide to our site. Everything a first timer needs to know. Enjoy
